As you can imagine, immigrating from apartheid South Africa to Canada meant my family and I had to adjust to a new life, a new culture, a new way of seeing the world, and often a new struggle to make ends meet. I saw firsthand how wise financial planning and investing, or the lack thereof, can impact stress levels, quality of life, and sense of security. I desired to do something to help people like my parents feel confident in their finances.
To add to that initial inspiration, my mum’s story sparked a passion to help women become educated and empowered about finances so they have a voice in decision-making. My mum and her three siblings were raised by a single mother in a time and place with limited opportunities. My mum was forced to leave school at a young age to look for work. She met and married my father, 9 years her senior and newly graduated from medical school, when she was 19. My mum, while without a formal education, was well-read and perfectly capable of making good decisions, but because of my dad’s position and age, she let him take the lead on the family finances. I saw how vulnerable that made her feel and made up my mind to do my part to erase that financial vulnerability many women experience. In financial advising, I saw a career where I could make that kind of difference in people’s lives, and I dove right in.
Fast-Forward To Today
I started working in the financial industry as soon as I graduated from Queens University, where I earned my MBA, specializing in Finance. After spending time building up my knowledge and experience in the financial world, I decided to do something about my dreams to help others in a more personal, tailored way. This led me to my current position as a Financial Advisor with Global Maxfin Investments Inc.
Today, I get the ultimate privilege of building long-term relationships with my clients, focusing on their life circumstances, their history, and their dreams so I can create customized strategies to meet their financial needs and goals. As a senior investment advisor, I strive to help my clients plan for their future so their finances can weather any storm. Following my dream to empower women financially, I spend a considerable amount of time and energy creating an environment where women can learn about investing and become more engaged in their financial affairs through my Dynamic Wealth Program for Women.
The Best Part
I’m not joking when I say that my clients inspire me daily. Even if I won the lottery, I would still spend my time working with my incredible clients, stewarding their dreams and finances so they can focus on what’s most important in their lives. I don’t take my responsibility to their money and their lives lightly and want to do everything I can to make sure their future is secure. There’s just nothing more fulfilling than celebrating with my clients when they achieve a goal or hearing their appreciation when they reach a milestone.
